Greetings!
My name is Marion Mutwiri – Mwangi a Counseling Psychologist and Marriage and Family Therapist. My journey to psychotherapy began when I was appointed as a peer counselor in high school many years back. I determined to be a professional counselor who helps people face and deal with their challenges, thus mental well-being, instead of denying and hiding them, thus mental ill-health. I must say, God has been more than faithful in directing and fulfilling this dream. My first degree is in Bible and Theology which enabled me to join church minister and serve in various capacities: Youth Pastor, interim Children’s Pastor, Pastoral Care and Associate Pastor. The church ministry exposed me to the need dire for psychological services in our continent to help people to work through life’s challenges holistically. It revived my childhood dream of pursuing counseling psychology. I have served as an adjunct faculty at Pan Africa Christian University (PAC University) in the department of Psychology and at the United States International University (USIU- Africa) in the department of Psychology & Family Studies. I work full-time at Famhope where I serve as the director, lead consultant and psychotherapist. I am passionate about integrating BIOPSYCHOSOCIALSPIRITUAL (medical, psychological, social & spiritual) interventions in preventing and intervening for mental health issues. I am married for 15 years to my college sweet heart, Rev. Steve Thuo Mwangi, the Lead Pastor at Trinity Chapel Ruiru and between us we are blessed with three lovely children; Ethan, Hope & Elvis.
I specialize in Marriage & Family Therapy. So often, our struggles in life is attributed to and adequately addressed from linear (A causes B kind of) thinking. However, this is not the whole truth because most of our struggles are associated with our views of self, others and the world, which was shaped by our early experiences in life. Our early experiences and family of origin forms our identity, self-esteem, relationships, conflict and problem-solving skills. My goal is to help clients to make sense of their experiences, increase self-awareness, accept what they cannot change, and find healthy ways to cope with present problems. In addition, I support each client or couple or system learn new skills to break old patterns in order to reclaim their lives and relationships by nurturing authenticity.
I love what I do! It is a privilege to journey with my clients to own their lives and make positive changes. It is my joy to see clients develop strength and resilience clients by gaining insight, committed, patience and hope in the therapy process. Their stories teach me valuable lessons for my personal and professional growth.
When I am not teaching or doing therapy, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I love traveling, listening to gospel music, watching educative and detective movies. Cooking a good meal for my family is the best way to re-energizes.
